Thank you, CASE Study, for pushing me WAY out of my comfort zone......this is probably the 4th or 5th 12" page I've ever done. Scrapbooking is just too scary for me - too much space and too little expertise to fill up that space. I even started a scrapbook of our grandson, and only got through the first 8 months of his life, and that was an 8" one! (he's 3 1/2 now!) I'm ashamed that I haven't finished it or started one for our granddaughter.......they are both so photogenic I have no excuses. I have a lot to learn, and I've gained lots of respect for those of you who do scrapbook. I would love some advice on how I could improve this page.......be kind, please :))
Such lovely photos and your beautifully colored flowers add to them perfectly, Lin! I haven't scrapbooked in ages so don't ask me for advice - in fact, just like with cardmaking, do what you want! It's your project, after all!
ReplyDeleteSweet layout, Lin. I love how you've used the flowers to embellish the page and they actually look so similar to those in the photograph. You have a good eye for color already so it looks very balanced .The butterflies are the perfect touch. I think you only need to determine what style you want to use on a layout just like you do for card making and practice making more layouts (once upon a time making a card was intimidating too). If you follow those same principles your layouts will shine like your cards do.
ReplyDeleteMeant to add, treat your photos as you do your focal panel on your cards. One thing that really helped me (and I'm still learning) is using Scrapbook Generation's Sketches for Scrapbooking.
ReplyDeletehth

Love your layout! Don't think it needs any improvement!
ReplyDeleteWell, you could have fooled me - this is SO perfectly balanced as a layout and OH so beautiful! Of course you had the best subject matter! PRECIOUS!! Hugs, Marcy
ReplyDeleteI love your stamped flowers on your layout - just gorgeous and brings out the flowers of the photos. I have one comment which I have learned only recently myself - is not to use the "main" colour of the photos as the "main" colour of your canvas. So if you had used, lets say, a pale blue of the tone in her top, you could have used the green dotted paper as accents. But that's just me.
ReplyDeleteO I know how you feel about scrapping - I realise now that I prefer cards because I don't mind if one doesn't turn out well. But a scrap page that doesn't turn out well eats at me - I have to keep seeing it! And each time I see it I get disappointed. But got to keep trying. I think the hardest thing for me is to decide on my style - and I'm getting there slowly. (And it's bound to change from time to time too).
this layout is perfect just the way it is! I love the flowers on the polka dot background!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet Lin! And you know what? I'd just put this page in a suitable frame and hang it on the wall. I'm a digital scrapper myself - I love it. Its so versatile, cheap (there's so many free kits on line) and very forgiving - you just click "undo" if you don't like it and try something else.
ReplyDeleteBut I do think your sweet page would look good on the wall Lin - not too fussy and large photos.
Such a beautiful and sweet layout, Lin! Love the precious photos of your granddaughter and hope you scrapbook more!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE this layout, Lin! Had to come over and tell you that you may have unleashed a new hobby! Hope to see more pages from you in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think your scrapbook page is just beautiful. You have so much talent ,I would just let your precious photos be the main focus like you've done here . You could do a bit of journaling on the opposite page if the was a story to tell. don't feel bad,I have been collecting scrapbook supplies since my firt grandson was very young . Heis a 6 ft. sophmore in high school .I've taken lots of pictures -still in boxes.
ReplyDeleteAwww Lin, but this IS fantastic!! I too have some issues with scrapbooking but I'm trying to learn - for me browsing the many blogs of talented peeps helps me pick up the things I should know, especially regarding the smart sketches! I think in the end, the layouts can also be CAS and fabulous, I actually prefer them this way. Good luck and thanks so much for taking the courage to join us! xxx
ReplyDeleteI am so intimidated by scrapbooking! I think your page is very sweet! Your granddaughter is indeed very photogenic!!
ReplyDeleteOh this is just darling, Lin! I don't get to see many pages from you and this is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI started out scrapbooking when my kids were little - I think my 21 year old's album stops at 5 years old, and my 17 year old's never got past age three, so I know that guilty feeling! Love this page, Lin! The photos are so sweet - (I'll bet you love kissin' those cheeks!) The stamped flowers really are perfect! I know you mentioned adding journaling over on Flickr, which could have easily been done in place of one of the flower bunches, but I think these darling photos speak for themselves! You may want to add a date though - I was always glad I did that when I look back at my layouts now.
ReplyDeleteLove how you made the flowers and include them in this adorable LO. It's all about making Memories.... and this LO certainly does that. Just beautiful
ReplyDeleteYour page is lovely, but your granddaughter is BEAUTIFUL!! Such a lovely age, and you are a luck grandma!!
ReplyDeleteOH Lin, this is just beautiful! Lovely feel here!!
ReplyDelete(I do not like scrapbooking at all - it never ever works with me)
You do not need to change a thing- when we have such wonderful cute grandchildren, whatever we do will be beautiful:) The paper and the embellishments and especially the pictures are perfect. Next time you may want to put the date the pix were taken on the layout somewhere (no one will remember years from now) and maybe a little journaling about where and what was special about that day. I was intimidated too, but I find the 12 x 12 size allows for enough pix to really tell the story. Pix and paper, a header and maybe some journaling- that is all you need for a treasured memory of our adorable grandchildren. Have Fun!
ReplyDeleteWould not change a thing. My only suggestion is to CREATE MORE of these pages :0)
ReplyDeleteLin, this LO is just adorable. Alma is super photogenic!! Such a little beauty!
ReplyDeleteI have made less than 20 scrapbook pages, so don't have many words of wisdom for you. It would take 50 years for me to scrapbook all of my family's photos and I don't have that much time left! LOL Will leave that task for the younger ones. :)
I think your page is perfect just as it is! I, too, have an eight-month old granddaughter and was going to make a booklet of her first year. I have a box of photos and bits of ribbon and paper and the ring-style cardboard books and have yet to put anything at all together. So, I commend you on what you have done so far! I am a cardmaker and not a scrapbooker and I guess I am just intimidated by the whole thing! So, enjoy what you have done - it's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous LO and your Granddaughter is adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks for thinking outside the box with us at CASE Study this week! :)
Hugs!

Beautiful layout and she is so adorable! I can't offer any suggestions because I don't scrapbook, I think it's perfect just the way it is.
ReplyDeletethis couldn't be any sweeter! What a doll! You've showcased her so well...love the colours :) Thanks for helping us celebrate our 2nd Anniversary over on CASE Study this week :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet layout and design, Lin! Your granddaughter is so adorable and I believe she is going to keep you very busy with more of scapbooking projects!
ReplyDeleteLin, you're not alone! I used to scrapbook my kids' photos, but all of that space is overwhelming to me, and it takes forever to finish a page. Your layout is gorgeous, though! I love the butterflies flitting around the page and the bright colors. What a cutie your granddaughter is, too. Thanks for joining in the celebration at CASE Study this week!
