Poppy Sketch.......with a pop of pattern

I'm entering the Poppy Sketch challenge for the first time.  Their requirement of using something harlequin (translation to me "argyle") made me remember this extra panel I colored recently for the Father's Day challenge at the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday blog.  I had been seeing so many lovely examples, mostly from Karen, using embossing folders that have been inked first to make backgrounds, that one day I pulled out a bunch of folders that I thought would work for this technique (thanks so much, Audrie!) and had a fun day inking them to see what I'd get.  This main panel was one that I put away for future, and I didn't think it would be used so soon, but I'm thrilled to have another play with it.  Here's the sketch we are to use:

and here's what I did:

supplies: white, faded jeans, and peeled paint Core'dinations Distress cardstocks, Darice's Argyle embossing folder, faded jeans and peeled paint distress markers, Hero Arts Upperclass Alphabet dies, stamped sentiment from Winnie & Walter's The Big, the Bold, and the Happy, Hero Arts Navy ink, American Crafts blue grosgrain ribbon

I trimmed my argyle panel, framed it up in faded jeans and peeled paint papers, then added it to the card base, following the sketch.  There seemed to me to be way too much white space to the right, until I added that "bow tie" ribbon, which served to somehow pull everything together!

Thanks for visiting today, and for your kind comments.

Very pretty,Lin. The softness of the Distress Colors and the sentiment you chose just seem to be perfect . You're right, the blue ribbon brings everything together.
