MFT Sketch Challenge

Sneaking in at the last hour with an entry for the current My Favorite Things Sketch Challenge:

I was so enthralled with Karolyn's velveteen stamping here, that I went the same route, using a very old Hero Arts ditzy floral stamp for my pattern.  This is a technique invented by Shari Carroll when she was a Hero Arts artist; basically you stamp a pattern in white pigment ink on white cardstock, and when it's dry, overstamp your designs.....the white pattern will float upwards and be subtly visible through the overstamped colors.

Velveteen stamping

Here's another card for Hero Arts one-layer challenge.  I wanted to do the Velveteen Stamping technique again, and I think this may be my most successful try at it.  Basically you stamp an underlying pattern on the card in white ink, and then overstamp solid images in colors, and if all the planets align, the first pattern shows through the top ones, creating a fun design!  Here's my card:

I stamped the Winnie & Walter sentiment first on an angle, then masked the sentiment and overstamped the Hero Arts Tweed pattern in Colorbox Frost White ink, to cover the top and bottom of my card.  After allowing that to dry thoroughly, I again masked the sentiment, and stamped the flowers (Hero Arts 4 Fun Flowers and the little one from Remember) in various pool, green,  and mint inks.  We're allowed to use embellishments for this challenge, so I added just a few sparkly sequins in clear and blues.  

I'm very pleased with my results, and this will be used almost immediately, as my family has 3 birthdays in August coming up!

Velveteen Stamping

I wanted to make a card to enter into the Moxie Fab World's Stamp It! Cards week for the Thank You challenge.  I also wanted to use the bordered sentiment technique again, also incorporating the Velveteen Stamping technique that I learned from Shari Carroll. 

Can you see the underlying pattern that was stamped all over the card in white ink first? That is the velveteen technique.

Briefly, to get this effect you stamp a background stamp in white ink on white cardstock, then overstamp the sentiments and flowers using colored inks.  You get the best results when your stamps are solid rubber, so that the underlying pattern can show through......I was surprised to see it come through on the biggest sentiment also! 

Velveteen Stamping

Happy Weekend, Friends!  I hope yours is productive and leisurely!  Today I'm sharing a card using a technique that Shari Carroll is showing us this month as part of our challenge for March at the Hero Arts Blog.  Basically, it's stamping a background design in white, and then overstamping some designs that have an open area, enough so that the background design shows through it. Shari used "solid" flowers for her overstamping; I decided to us a big stamp with lots of open space so that the stamping behind it would show through.  The effect is kind of like stamp kissing, but different :))

Here's my card:
