I remembered a card I made a few weeks ago and decided to take it and add the outlining to it. So I started with the stamped card (I've included a picture at the end of my post) and added some tumbled glass shading with a dauber, then went back in with a fine-tip black pen and went to town:
supplies: Avery Elle's Oh Happy Day, Simon's Cotton Candy, worn lipstick, shabby shutters, peeled paint, and tumbled glass distress, and Hero Arts Soft Canteloupe inks
The difference to me is astounding!

this is so fantastic Lin - i haven't taken the class 'cause i've been away but am going to try this technique - looks like Altenew's painted flowers.

Wow! That is quite a difference. It was pretty before, but that blue background and outlining really makes it pop! It looks so artistic now. You have this technique down Lin!!

While the original is lovely, the outlining takes this card over the top! Wow!

The difference is amazing, Lin! You have mastered this technique and I can see that it will be a popular one. I think I will give it a try when I decide which flower stamps to use.

Wow Lin, just love what your black outlining did to the original (which was totally gorgeous to begin with!). Looks like such a great technique - I think I'd be totally hopeless at it, but I'll try. Thanks for the inspriation!!
It's amazing what a difference a few strokes of the pen can make. It was easier than I thought it would be. Your card is gorgeous!
The doodling really makes the card pop. It brings it to life. I've been a bit scared to try tnis yet. Will have to pluck up the courage.
Oh my goodness it looks so different and in my opinion even more gorgeous.

Not much I can add to what everyone else has said. This is such a fantastic technique, in my mind the clear winning take away from class. Your cards are fantastic, and the impact of the doodling really shows up with your before and after. I am loving this technique too. Excellent post Lin.

It is so interesting how it changes the whole tone of the card. I like them both a lot but the added whimsy created by the outlining really sends a happy note.

Yes! Your card is very nice and you've got Dawn's technique down pat. I love the look the black freehand lines add to the stamped image.
What a fantastic before and after! Love the detail and movement added by the doodled outline - I wonder if my hand is steady enough?!
