Hope You Can Cling To

Here is my first card for the Flat is Fabulous challenge at Splitcoast Stampers, just one of many challenges this month in support of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Our hostess, Beate, asked us to create a CAS card, 1 or 2 layers, keeping it flat.  All of the cards made during this month for this series of challenges are to be mailed in to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.  In thinking about what I wanted to make for this challenge, my mind went to the fact that men are also victims of breast cancer, and I'll bet there are not many cards made for men.  So I decided to try and do a masculine card.

Luckily I just received these Simon exclusive dies called Pointed Feathers.  I bought them thinking they would be good for masculine cards.  Next I pulled this old sentiment to pair my feathers with, and decided to cut some feathers from music paper, since there's a reference to singing, and then from some cork paper.  My other elements on this card are the Tim Holtz woodgrain embossing folder and some Hero Arts twine.

As I'm a breast cancer survivor of almost 10 years, I know firsthand what an impact cards can make for patients undergoing treatments, so I'm hoping to make some more cards this month for this wonderful cause. These challenges run through November 7, so I hope that you'll consider doing the same!

I'd also like to enter this into the MFW's Metal, Wood, and Cork challenge.

How thoughtful of you to make a masculine card (although I would have no trouble receiving and loving this beautiful card). Happy ten years! I have 17 and life is good. I have never learned how to navigate the SCS site .... but what a great idea to send cards ... Hugs.

This is perfectly masculine Lin and good of you to think about men afflicted with Breast Cancer. A very worthy cause.

Oh gorgeous card, Lin! I love all the texture and the beautiful sentiment paired with those gorgeous feathers. What a great idea to make a masculine card for the Centre, I'm sure it will be much appreciated. I love what you're doing both in making cards and spreading the word about the card drive:):)
