Variations on a Theme

I have 2 cards today, inspired by a wonderful card maker, Michele Ferguson.  I've had THIS card of Michele's pinned for awhile, waiting for the right inspiration.  I loved Michele's use of the bit of gingham behind her main image.  Here's the first card I made:

supplies: white and pale blue cardstock, Impression Obssession Gingham cling, Sunny Studio Everything's Rosy multi-step stamps, Deep Blue Seas and Green Valley mini ink cubes, The Crafts Meow (retired) Happy as a Lark sentiment, adhesive foam squares

I first used a circle mask to stamp the gingham in the center of my white panel.  Separately, I stamped and arranged the flowers and leaves and decided where they'd be placed before I stamped my sentiment.  The flower arrangement was then lifted above the gingham circle.

Then I thought I'd reverse the design for the background, and put a white circle inside a gingham base.  This Sunny Studio Gingham dp is a perfect match to the inks I used for the flowers.

supplies: white and Classic Gingham cardstock, Sunny Studio Everything's Rosy multi-step stamps, Deep Blue Seas and Green Meadows mini ink cubes, Fancy Frames Circle die, Simon's Stitched Circle die and sentiment from Choose Joy stamp set

Which one do you prefer?  Thank you, Michele, for your constant inspiration!

Both of these are so delightful Lin. My favourite is the first one with the circle of the gingham. The blue roses are really beautiful.

What stunning cards Lin - love that you used the blue gingham theme in both cards, and paired with the blue flowers it is so pretty.

So happy to find this sweet surprise in my inbox this morning, Lin! Reading this kindness on my phone at 11:00pm just isn't the same!

I adore the 'fabric' detail of that IO stamp, and your darling little scalloped circle on the second... two fabulous ways to highlight these gorgeous blue roses! I couldn't choose a favorite!

Thanks so very much for liking/pinning my card - what a honor!

Both cards are exquisite but I'm drawn to the second card with the white circle inside the blue gingham. To me it stands out a bit more.
Thank you for sharing.

I had to comment because I just discovered a stack of gingham paper that's been hiding in my craft room forever. After wondering how to use it for a birthday card, your post showed up! Thank you for such inspiration. Love your designs & use of gingham paper, my favorite!

Beautiful cards Lin. Love the gingham, there is something just so summery about it. Works well into fall too.
