Oak Forest

I love my embossing folders, and so when I saw this new one from the Spellbinders Falling Leaves Collection, I grabbed it!  It's called Oak Forest, and it will be a workhorse for me in the fall; love the size of the leaves and acorns!  I decided to make a bittersweet wreath to let the folder shine.

white, kraft, gold, oranges, and red cardstock, Oak Forest 3D embossing folder, Build a Wreath, Garden Wreath, and Hiking Through the Meadow sprigs, leaves, and berries, All Seasons Autumn Sentiments press plate/die set, twine bow

Next, I wanted to try the blackout technique.  My Dad loved oak trees the best in the fall - he was drawn to the duller colors.

supplies: white, kraft, rust, burgundy, and gold cardstock, Oak Forest 3D embossing folder, alcohol markers to color, aqua ink for background, Autumn Wonder oak leaves, Fall Thoughtfulness sentiment, adhesive foam squares

I turned the embossed panel over and colored in the leaves and acorns with alcohol markers, then swiped an aqua ink pad over the whole panel to color in the background.  Then I cut an oak leaf from 3 different colors and lifted it above the card, along with my sentiment.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Autumn Blessings

Here's my card for this month's Love Those Pretty Papers Challenge.  We're to use FALL as an optional theme this month - you don't have to ask me twice!!

supplies: cream, kraft, golds, and greens cardstock, 4 design papers from past Doodlebug 6" paper pads, The Greetery Sunflower Botanicuts dies, Simon Autumn Blessings die

I've used this sketch many times before, but never with such varied patterns.  I love the addition of aqua to traditional fall colors.  Even the 2 papers that appear solid in the background are tone-on-tone prints.

For those of you who might ask, the left upper square is 1 1/2" square and the blue rectangle next to it is 2 1/2" X 1 1/2".  The length of the other 2 rectangles is 3 3/4".

I plead guilty to hoarding pattern papers - it's a disease!  So I'm thrilled to be able to use them for this fun monthly challenge!  Thanks so much, Darlene and Diane!!

Build a Plaid!

Wendy Vecchi has a really fun new release out at Spellbinders which she calls "Not Your Ordinary Card Collection".  Today I'm playing with a set of stencils that she designed that helps you to make a plaid background.

supplies: cream cardstock, Build a Plaid stencil set, warm colors of distress inks and blending brushes, Fall Thoughtulness stamps and matching dies

The stencil set has 5 different stencils, and you can use all of them or just a few, to build a simple design or a more complex one.  A hint I have for using stencils like this is to start with a light colored cardstock and build on that.

Plaid is a natural for fall cards, so I added a bouquet of autumn leaves and a sentiment from a set from last year called Fall Thoughtfulness.

Thank you so much for stopping by today - enjoy your day!

Oh Joyful Day Card Kit

Here's a pretty Christmas card kit from Spellbinders?  It's called Oh Joyful Day by Rosie's Studio.  I made 4 cards so far using the supplies in the kit.

I really like the soft pinks and mints that are included, along with the traditional Christmas colors. The card kit includes a pack of 6" patterned papers, another of chipboard embellishments, some button embellishments, and a pack of clear stickers.  I also asked for the Diecut Ephemera package and the Puffy Stickers pack, which are sold separately.

supplies: white card base, Rosie's Studio Oh Joyful Day kit, Oh Joyful Day Diecut Ephemera pack, adhesive foam square

I also ordered a package of puffy stickers, sold separately.  Here you can see them as my sentiment and the snowflake circles.

supplies: white cardstock, Rosie's Studio Oh Joyful Day kit, Oh Joyful Day Diecut Ephemera pack, Oh Joyful Day Puffy Stickers, adhesive foam squares

On this third card, I used one of the buttons included in the kit; it reads "JOY".  And since there are touches of gold foiling on some of the ephemera, I used one of the clear stickers as my sentiment; it's also foiled in gold.

supplies: white cardstock, Oh Joyful Day kit, Oh Joyful Day Ephemera pack

My final card made use of the chipboard stickers included in the kit.

supplies: white cardstock base, Oh Joyful Day kit, Ephemera pack

As you can see, there are tons of ways to mix and match all the elements you'll get in this kit. All you need are some blank cards to create on!  I find these kits to be invaluable when I need a card in a hurry!

Spellbinders September Club Kits - Autumn Greetings

The Spellbinders Club Kits are now available for new members, and this month's theme is Autumn Greetings!

I'm loving the Dies of the Month: Autumn Scarecrow! I paired them with the 3D embossing folder: Pumpkin Patch.

supplies: colored cardstock, Autumn Scarecrow dies, Pumpkin Patch embossing folder

There are 24 pieces in the small die set.  You get a choice of the scarecrow head that I used or a jack-o-lantern one.  There's also a bat.  And you can use the pumpkins, sunflowers, and crow all on their own to make your own scene.

I thought this little scene would look good against the new Pumpkin Patch 3D embossing folder.

And while I had it out, I used it one more time, but colored it using the black-out technique and brown ink, and added the Caboodle bonus item for this month, Hoppy Halloween.  The sentiment dies are included, and read "Trick or Treat".

white, kraft, and colored cardstock, Pumpkin Patch 3D folder, markers and vintage photo distress ink, Hoppy Halloween frog and sentiment dies

Next are the Large Dies: Picture Perfect Autumn.  I used a sentiment from last month's All Seasons release.  This is a 5 X 7" card.

supplies: colored cardstock, Picture Perfect Autumn dies, Four Seasons Autumn die, sub-sentiment from All Seasons Autumn Sentiments BetterPress plate

This 23 piece set also includes some large sunflower dies that can be put into the foreground of your scene and a small banner sentiment, but today I chose to use a large sentiment instead.  I thoroughly enjoyed using these beautiful fall colors!

Here's another card using the sunflower dies from the set.  I used the same sentiment as above.

supplies: various cardstock colors, a blue plaid dp, Picture Perfect Autumn sunflowers, All Seasons Autumn Sentiment press plate and die

The Stitching dies for this month make a large sunflower!  I paired them with the Embossing Folder of the month.

supplies: colored cardstocks, Stitched Sunflower (includes sentiment), 3 strands of embroidery floss to match, and Autumn Chevron embossing folder

I cut 2 of the flower dies and stacked them.  The sentiment dies are included in the set, and come with shadow dies, also.

Up next is the Glimmer of the Month: Friendly Thanks.  This month it comes with a roll of Rose Gold foil, and it is luscious!  I apologize for not being able to capture the beautiful color.

supplies: white and pale green cardstock, Friendly Thanks glimmer plates, Rose Gold Glimmer hot foil, Solid Rectangle glimmer plate, Little Blooms dies, tiny pearls

After foiling the big Thanks and a sub-sentiment, one of 5 choices in the set, I cut another piece of Rose Gold foil and placed it over my Solid Rectangle glimmer plate to give me a foiled rectangle.  I then used that to cut out the flowers for my little arrangements.

The Stencils of the Month are called Colorful Pumpkins.

supplies: white and orange cardstock, Colorful Pumpkins stencils, distress inks in carved pumpkin, antique linen, shabby shutters, mustard seed, and tea dye, sentiment from Autumn Wishes, the clear stamp of the month

The stencil set is 5 parts, and you can use them in any order, but make the stems last.  I changed colors as I changed stencils.  As I like to do, I used one of the stencils to emboss the orange pumpkins after everything was colored and the panel was trimmed.  My sentiment is one of those from this month's clear stamp of the month, which you'll see next.

The stamp/die set this month is called Autumn Wishes, and consists of these 2 images, plus a variety of sentiments, with dies for almost everything.

supplies: white cardstock, Autumn Wishes stamps/dies, markers to color

I simply stamped, colored, and die-cut the images, then arranged them onto a white card base on which I'd already stamped my sentiment.

You can look HERE for information on Spellbinders Clubs.  Each is available for new subscribers only from the 6th until the 27th of each month.  If you click on my links under each card, you can see the specifics of each product.  You can subscribe to each of our 10 kits separately, (and you can "unjoin" a subscription at any time without any penalty), or you can get them all, plus a free bonus item each month, and save 60% by choosing the Deluxe Caboodle!

Four Seasons: Spring

Here is my final card to show you the new All Seasons Collection from Spellbinders released last month.

supplies: white and colored cardstock, Four Seasons dies, All Seasons Spring press plate/die, Little Blooms flower dies, Rainboot Bouquet Daffodil dies, Flowers and Foliage 3D embossing folder

If you look back at my 2 previous posts using this collection, you'll see that I used the same layout for all 3 of my cards, simply changing up the theme of each.  These Four Season dies are large, big enough to be used for scrapbooking, so they take up a little more real estate on an A2 card and don't need much else.

Thanks for coming by - I hope your day is a great one!

Simon Hurley Let It Snow Collection!

I was fortunate enough to get to play with a few sets from this month's new Simon Hurley Let It Snow collection!

supplies: black, white, red, green, aqua, orange, pink cardstock, Playful Penguins dies, Frozen Flurries cover plate, Handwritten Holiday Sentiments, tiny white pom-poms, adhesive foam squares

This is such a fun collection!  I made just 2 of the 3 different penguins, and didn't even use some of the accessories that are included, like reindeer horns and a Rudolph nose, a gift package, and more hats.  The sentiment set includes 16 different word dies with matching shadows that you can use to make your own greeting.  And the Frozen Flurries is a cover plate that can be used whole as I did, or you can pick out the individual flakes to make your own arrangement.  As you can see, you have a nice selection of flakes in all sizes!

Thanks for stopping by - I hope my card helped to cool you down from this summer heat!
