Hero Arts sketch

This month there are several criteria to choose to enter the Hero Arts August contest.  I decided to make a clean and simple card using one of the sketches we were given:

supplies: white cardstock, Hero Arts 331065 Lattice, VersaMark ink and spun sugar distress ink, CL569 Truly Grateful, CL496 Layered Flowers, VersaFine onyx black ink, papers from Doodlebug Designs sugar & spice, Recollections pearls, pink button, corner chomper

I was in the mood for something very softly colored.  It's still hot here, and these colors just feel cooler to me!  I first stamped the label and sentiment, then masked it, masked off the edges of the card, and clear stamped and white embossed the lattice.  Leaving on all the masks, I then sponged on spun sugar distress ink.  Of course I chose a flower to embellish this simple card, and added a button to it's center, some leaves, and a few pearls.

Does this card look "short" to you?  Wouldn't you know, that after I did all my masking and sponging, when I took off the masks, there was a smudge of black ink, pretty faint, but there nevertheless on the bottom left. I hated to throw this away after all the work, so I hacked off about 1/2" of the bottom :))

I'm so glad I stopped by to have another look at this pretty card. After seeing it on Flickr, I didn't realize you used masking - awesome work, Lin, and I love the soft colors! If you hadn't said anything about the size, I never would have known you cut it.

This is SO pretty - my very favorite color palette! And NO, it doesn't look short. I don't think my cards are ever the same size, so I think it's perfect! XO

Such a beautiful card... short or not! Still looks perfect to me... a great save though. I, too, didn't realise it was masked till I took a closer look. Great masking and stamping

You make me laugh, Lin! I never thought I'd hear you say "hacked"! Guess you will always surprise me. Love the softness here - your masking worked perfectly (well, almost, apparently!). Love that lattice, too. Hugs!

Awesome save Lin!! That's so frustrating when stuff like that happens! I feel cooler just looking at this beautiful pastel card! Love your idea of masking the sentiment!!

BEAUTIFUL card,, Lin! LOVE the lattice and the flower! So sad about the smudge. I hate it when that happens. Wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it.
